Writing as Prayer: A Lament Writing Practice for Black Mothers (FREE Standalone Narrative Writing Sessions for the Soul)
Writing as Prayer: A Lament Writing Practice for Black Mothers
Two Sessions on October 6:
10/6/2026 from 5 to 6:15 p.m. CT
10/6/2026 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. CT
Please pick one or more options below for the sessions you’d like to attend.
These sessions are for mothers of Black children and/or those who mother Black children.
This lament writing practice is an invitation to pause, breathe, cry out, and release some of the grief your body may be holding in this present moment.
There will be two sessions, and both sessions are free. Two session times are available. The sessions will be the same, and you are welcome to attend both if you feel called to do so.
Writing as Prayer is a meditative and reflective writing workshop grounded in a Christian spiritual framework, while welcoming people from all faith traditions, as well as those who are simply curious, searching, or longing for a deeper connection with themselves and the sacred.
Come as you are.
Bring what you are carrying.
There is space here to lament, to breathe, to write, and to be witnessed.
Sometimes prayer is spoken.
Sometimes prayer is song.
Sometimes prayer is silence.
And sometimes prayer is writing the words our body is holding.
Come to breathe
Come to be still
Come to write
Come to share
Come to listen
In a sacred space.
Bring your journal, your questions, your faith and be present.
More about Tanya Davis
Tanya Davis became passionate about narrative writing while completing the Narrative Medicine Master’s Program at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Tanya Davis believes that our bodies are story collectors and are waiting for us to slow down and listen. Using literature, poetry, and other forms of art as prompts, we will breathe and write while releasing the stories our body holds.
If you believe in the power of story and want to explore your personal narratives in community, with others, Follow the Echoes of Your Inner Voice narrative workshops is the space to do it.
These narrative workshops:
*Are a meditative practice. When you want to slow down and listen to the stories your body is holding.
*Are helpful if you have a fear of writing and want to explore the possibility in a non-judgmental space.
*Build confidence as you see the power of sharing your story with others.
*Build compassion and empathy as you become an active listener in the story of others.
We will write. We will listen. We will bear witness with one another in a sacred space.
Private sessions are also available. Please contact Tanya at TDavis@thewillgroup.com if you’d like to discuss private one-on-one options.
Please pick one or more options below for the dates you’d like to attend.
