#1000wordsofsummer Starts Next Saturday!

I have loved Jami Attenberg’s #1000wordsofsummer challenge ever since her very first one in 2018. (I think it was 2018? Maybe it was 2017? 2016?) You can learn more about it here, but it’s basically a writing challenge where you write 1000 words every day for two weeks.

I’m doing it again this year Saturday, June 17-Friday, June 30th, and I’d love for you to join me on this journey.

I will have a daily #1000wordsofsummer post and comment thread 6/17-6/30 in the A Writer’s Diary for Members Only section of the SDW Members area. All SDW Members are welcome to comment on my daily post and/or submit their own daily post via the A Writer’s Diary for Members Only Submissions Google Form. (The Google Form is coming soon!)

We will also have a few Zoom checkins to see how things are going and give #1000wordsofsummer participants opportunities to verbally process their experiences.

So, mark your calendars and give some thought to what you might want to write 14,000 (or more or fewer) words about on June 17th-June 30th.

If you’d like to join SDW for #1000wordsofsummer, learn more about the SDW Membership here. It’s only $15/month and you can cancel and rejoin and cancel and rejoin anytime because writers have to subscribe to so many things these days, right?

Here’s a photo of me from last June with my #1000wordsofsummer mug after finishing up #1000wordsofsummer and writing 16,935 new words for the book proposal for my Spiritual Direction for Writers book. This year I will be writing at least 14,000 new words for the book that’s now under contract with Eerdmans. How cool is that?
