Daily Nourishment for September 27, 2024: One Way to Move through Creative Resistance with Guidance from Leah Everson
Daily Nourishment Read Time: 45 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 15 minutes
“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.” - Brené Brown
Pause.
Take deep breaths with a six-count inhale and a six-count exhale while reading the quote above a a few times.
Prompt.
Think about a recent or current experience of creative resistance—when you wanted to make your art but you just couldn’t bring yourself to do it.
Take notes for five minutes about the scenario, your circumstances, etc.
Practice.
Now, pause, take a few deep breaths, then think about your motivations. Why do you want to make art, write, plant new flowers in containers, etc.? (Take a few notes, if you like.)
Then observe your thoughts and feelings about making art, the resistance, and your motivations. Be curious and examine the experience from various angles.
Then make a choice to pivot towards more of what you want to make or create, or describe what it would be like to make a choice to pivot towards more of what you want to make or create.
Take more notes and visualize yourself making the choice and acting on it.
