Daily Nourishment for May 23: Why Is It Beautiful?

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 40 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 13 minutes

“The real and proper question is: why is it beautiful?” - Annie Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek

Pause.

Do four rounds of 4/7/8 breathing. Inhale for a count of four, hold your breath for a count of seven, and exhale for a count of eight. Repeat this breathing pattern two more times. Then watch this video of the Atlantic ocean for a couple of minutes.

Prompt.

Here’s a quote from St. Thérèse of Lisieux:

“I was between six and seven when I saw the sea for the first time. I could not turn away my eyes: its majesty, the roaring of the waves, the whole vast spectacle impressed me deeply and spoke to my soul of God’s power and greatness.”

Practice.

Set a timer for 10 minutes and journal or take notes in response to the quotes above and/or the questions below:

—Which natural elements impress you most and speak to your soul?
—How does being outside affect your creativity?
—How does enjoying nature affect your mood and stress levels?
