Daily Nourishment for March 12: The Season You Called an Interruption

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 40 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 10-15 minutes

What if the season of your life you've been calling an interruption to your writing life has actually been your writing life all along?

Pause.

Sit with the question above for one full minute. Don't answer it yet. Just let it move through you. Notice where it lands. In your chest, your gut, your throat. If something tightens, that tightening is information.

Prompt.

Write at the top of a piece of paper or page in your journal: "The season I've been calling an interruption."

Then name it. A job, a loss, a long silence, a caregiving season, a year of not-writing?

Then write for eight minutes in response to this question: What might this season have been forming in me that I couldn't have gotten any other way?

Practice.

For the next five days, choose one recurring moment from your ordinary life that you have privately resented as a thief of your writing time. The commute, the dishes, the school pickup, the insomnia. Each time you encounter it, whisper: All of life is the writing life. This is forming me. At the end of each day (or at the end of most days), write one sentence about what it might have been forming.
