Daily Nourishment for June 9: When You Feel Disconnected from the Present Moment

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 40 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 14 minutes

When you feel disconnected from the present moment, drawing can make you more mindful.

Pause.

Look at this photo of Georgia O’Keeffe’s studio by Laura Gilpin for two minutes. Zoom in and wander around the image. Notice what catches your attention.

Prompt.

Set a timer for 10 minutes and draw a picture of your desk or writing space. Include one or two details that you don’t typically notice. The point is not to draw a perfect picture. The point is to see in a new way while inhabiting the present moment.

Practice.

Make a new drawing of the same desk or writing space two more times in the coming hours or days.
