Daily Nourishment for January 24: Praise to the Light That Is Not Yet

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 45 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 15 minutes

Pause.

Do a few rounds of Box Breathing: Inhale for a count of four, hold for a count or four, exhale for a count of four, hold for a count of four.

Prompt.

“Why must I learn the same lessons over and over again? That both life and art atrophy if they are not communing with each other. That it means nothing to make a space for the miraculous in one’s work if one can’t recognize some true intrusion in one’s life.” - Christian Wiman, Zero at the Bone

Practice.

Take notes or journal in response to the quote above and the questions below:

—Which miracles have you noticed in your art and others’ art, in your life, and others’ lives?

—Which lessons do you keep having to learn again and again?

—How can you tell when your art and life aren’t communing with each other? What does that atrophy look like for you?
