Daily Nourishment for April 30, 2024: A Secret Collaborator

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 55 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 13 minutes

“She has referred to gravity as her secret collaborator. It’s this natural force that allows her oil paint, thinned with linseed oil, to drip down the surface in cascading trails.” - Megan Abrahams, on Hung Liu’s art

Pause.

Take six deep breaths with a six-count inhale and a six-count exhale. Then look at the painting Dandelion with Red Dragonfly (silver) by Hung Liu for a couple of minutes while continuing to breathe with a six-count inhale and a six-count exhale.

Prompt.

Read the Nasher Museum of Art’s description for Dandelion with Red Dragonfly (silver):

Practice.

Set a timer for seven minutes, and take notes on:

—The painting and the painting’s description
—Dandelion thoughts and memories from your own life experiences
—Any dandelion moments/seasons of life when you’ve had to survive a long journey or fly away, take your chance, and wait to see what the future holds

If you like, use your notes to begin a new poem, story, essay, or letter to a friend.
