Good morning,

I was able to have lovely conversations with three dear friends yesterday. I had phone calls with two writer friends who each live a few states away and one in-person visit with a Birmingham friend who came over for an hour or so.

Yesterday’s SDW Co-Writing sessions gave me even more opportunities for conversations and interactions with delightful people.

When I’m in an intense “write the damn book” mode, it can be easy for me to isolate, stay deep in the writing and work, and put my friendships on hold. But I’m trying to do a better job of nourishing my relationships and caring for my relational needs with this book, and with my writing practice overall.

The writing life can be a lonely life, and we don’t need to make it worse by staying in our heads or scraping whatever we can from social media without meaningful engagement offline with people who know and love us, with people we know and love.

Don’t forget to call your friends.
