Pause.

Watch this video for two minutes.

Prompt.

For five minutes, write a list of words in response to the video.

Use nouns, verbs, adjectives, even adverbs. See how descriptive your list can be.

Practice.

Have you ever been to a desert? Perhaps not, but you have been to another extreme geography, like the open ocean, or wooded/snowy mountains.

For eight minutes, write a response to all the ways life in that place differed from where you live out your daily life, and in what ways it was the same.

Want More?

  1. Find a large piece of craft paper, or cut a paper shopping bag open to have a large surface, and have 2 crayons/markers available (different colors).

  2. Play the video again starting at a new place (there are 10 hours worth!) and close your eyes.

  3. Take a crayon in each hand, and draw a response  as you listen.

  4. Your left hand and your right hand may move in synchrony, or in completely different ways. The idea is to let the sounds shape the movement of your hands as you draw lines, squiggles, circles, dots…however the desert symphony moves you!

  5. After a few minutes, open your eyes and see what you’ve created.
