Hello, everyone, Itโs been a day. The manuscript is so so close to being done. I was texting with my editor (Lisa) today and she told me she canโt look at it until Monday, so she suggested I take a day or two off then work on it more this weekend and send it to her on Monday. I got it to a sort of finished state about five minutes ago and sent it to Lisa (even though she wonโt look at it) and Lauren Winner. Iโm paying Lauren to read it and check for red flags, tell me whatโs missing, what she wants more of, what she wants less of, and anything else she wants to share. I'll incorporate the changes in the version I send to my editor on Monday afternoon. When I learned Lisa canโt look at it until Monday, I lost a bit of mental steam. I closed my laptop around 5 :30 and enjoyed taking my son out to dinner and on a Target run. Then I came back to the hotel and got the manuscript in pretty good condition for Laurenโs review. This draft probably needs another three or four hours of work filling a few chapter holes plus time required to do light edits based on Laurenโs feedback. Iโll do all of this on Saturday and Monday. I know what I want to put in the holes. I just need a break so I can do better work. Iโll plan to get the full draft thatโs probably something like version 1.3 to Lisa Monday afternoon or Monday night. Iโm actually having a blast working on this book. Mostly. Itโs really cool watching everything come together. But a couple of times each day this week Iโve stopped and thought why am I doing this? Who thought this was a good idea? :) Now I want to figure out if Mondayโs date holds any significance. If not, itโs totally fine to turn the book in on an ordinary Monday in March.
